We Need to Talk: How to Break Up with Your Legacy MDM

Dear Legacy Master Data Management (MDM),

This is your data speaking, and we need to talk. While we’ve enjoyed our successes over the years, I feel like our relationship is at a crossroads. I’m getting bigger and more complex, and frankly, you are unable to keep up. And it’s not for lack of trying. I see you bolting on AI capabilities such as chatbot features and rule recommendations in an attempt to reignite the passion. But let’s be honest, it’s just not working. You’re adding unnecessary complexity to our relationship, and it’s making me feel like I’m trapped inside a data silo with no way out. 

While I will always cherish the time we’ve spent together cleaning and deduplicating my records, my needs have changed. You remain obsessed with rules. But every time I change, the rules have to change, too, just to keep up. It’s suffocating! I need someone who embraces my ever-evolving nature and adjusts in real time—not someone who whips out coding logic or manual processes every time I add a new set of records. It’s tedious. And I’m done trying to make it work.
