Room to Read was founded 20 years ago with a mission to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.
Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, Room to Read develops literacy skills and reading habits among primary school children; and supports girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond. Their progress to date in realizing this mission has been nothing short of incredible.
Since its founding, Room to Read has reached over 16.8 million children worldwide with libraries, books, and education programs in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments.
The generosity of donors throughout the world provides the organization with the resources they need to impact millions of children. Meaningfully engaging with donors, and ensuring that they understand the impact they’re making, is foundational to Room to Read’s success. This requires accurate, unified data to understand, “who are our donors?” and “how have they interacted with us?” Answering these questions has been a daunting challenge for an organization that collects data from a wide variety of sources through spreadsheets and CRM.
When we heard about this challenge over two years ago, we were excited that the solutions we were building every day could be used to help them have an even bigger impact. We jumped right into the project together, and are proud of the results: trusted, unified views of donors that Room to Read is using to help fuel their growth.
Solving the donor data challenge
We supported Room to Read with the unification and mastering of their donor data, which included contributions from both organizations and individuals. The objective of the initiative was to consolidate and de-duplicate all donor records within their existing CRM system as well as donor prospect spreadsheets so that Room to Read has accurate records of current and potential donors.
Room to Read needed a solution that could deliver trustworthy results with minimal resource investment. Our machine learning-based platform was the perfect fit for meeting these requirements and enabling them to get actionable results quickly.
Similar to the way Tamr has helped organizations such as Toyota obtain 360-views of their global customers, Tamr has enabled Room to Read to better understand the distinct contacts in their systems and meaningfully engage their current and prospective donors. This has created a better experience for donors and helped the organization collect more donations to serve more children.

By empowering Room to Read with clean, curated contact data for enhanced donor analytics and campaign targeting, Tamr has helped Room to Read get the most value out of their data, and in turn, accelerate the realization of their mission.
